Wireless Internet
The Michiana Free-Net Society is very excited about a new opportunity
to serve our community in conjunction with the St. Joseph County
Public Library and the City of South Bend. We're building a
wireless Internet "canopy" over downtown South Bend.
We're doing this in stages, testing the waters as we go. The
pilot phase of this project went live in early May, 2005 for
a 4 month period.
We hope that you have had a chance to enjoy the wireless service
in downtown South Bend! Michiana Free-Net is proud to have offered
this service with a 4 month free trial period. The trial period
is quickly coming to a close but wireless service in the downtown
area will be continue to be available for only $15/month. This
service includes the wireless access, an email account with
spam filtering, and dial up service as a back up when you are
out of the wireless service area. We have local dial up numbers
for both South Bend and Elkhart. If you have any questions feel
free to contact us.
For users with a laptop computer and a wireless card, they
will be able to connect at high speeds at places in downtown
from Monroe on the North to Bartlett on the South, Lafayette
on the West and St. Joseph Street on the East. Users will have
Internet access at tables outside any restaurant, your car,
or inside any restaurant or business that joins the project.
Individual users connecting to the wireless network outside
will be required to get a Michiana Free-Net account which will
be free for the first three months of the pilot phase.
